Shustoke Fly Fishers
Ramp for Disabled Anglers

The long awaited ramp has now been constructed, giving access to the fishing platform adjacent to the disabled car park and site entrance gate. It is hoped that the ramp’s bar faced slabs and dual handrails will now provide those with mobility problems much easier and safer access to the water.  This ramp is not, however, wheelchair compliant.

The work was undertaken by Cuckoo Gap Ltd, who, incidentally, also constructed our six fishing platforms. The total cost was £2,998 but, thanks to Severn Trent Water’s generosity in paying for all the materials used and after taking into account the £343 collected from the sale of the late Brian Clark’s angling kit, kindly donated by Mrs Anne Clark, the net cost to the Club was £1,719. A plaque in remembrance of Brian has been placed on the handrail.
September 2011 Fishing Competition

Despite the exceptionally windy conditions there was a good turn out for the September Competition.  The format remained the same as the May Competition, two one hour sessions at two different locations along the bank.  The windy conditions and and the constant threat of rain made fishing difficult, this was shown by the fact that only a small amount of fish were caught.  The winner was Keith Morby who won with a single fish which weighed in at over 3lb.

Thanks must go to Trevor and Graham for organising a well run competition and also thank you to both their wives for getting up early on a Sunday morning to provide excellent bacon butties beforehand for everyone.
